Energy Charter Treaty could kill the Paris Climate Agreement

A piece of paper signed 25 years ago gives big oil, gas, and coal companies the power to sue entire countries for billions over expected profits. Other ISDS treaties like TTIP and CETA took hundred thousands of people on the street. The treaty is highly criminal as changes in legislation that protect the environment, workers or the health of the people require the public to pay extremely high indemnification often preventing new rules. The list of human rights violations due to ISDS is long. Now these treaties are found to choke the energy revolution. The Netherlands face an ISDS decision after their ban of coal-based power generation until 2030. Coal companies like RWE in Germany are rewarded. RWE demands 1.5 billion euros of indemnification for their coal power plants. Italy has already left the Energy Charter Treaty for Rockhopper sueing Italy because it was not allowed to drill for oil in the Adriatic Sea. Tell more EU member states to leave the Energy Charter Treaty! A solution would require a majority of member states to abandon the treaty.

debcheckroot v2.2: file only repos

Category: programs,
Source: SecuritySW,
Language: en,
Type:
update
.
debcheckroot v2.2 supports file only repos: use --repo "deb /basedir subdir1/ subdir2/". That way you can also verify manually downloaded packages like f.i. your proprietary printer driver. Packages which have been purged or uninstalled are no more checked by default (config files may remain). Some file names in .deb ar-archives had a trailing slash which does no more irritate debcheckroot. debcheckroot does no more try to read /etc/passwd on --download-only. The --only switch may be left out by accident when verifying only from sha256sum-lists and debcheckroot still produces the necessary output.

diskutils package: confinedrv v1.7.9

Category: programs,
Source: LinuxSW,
Language: en,
Type:
update
.
important bugfix update: readout-parttbl did backup whole partitions instead of just the intermediate space if partitions did not have some intermediate space between them which is often the case for GPT partitions (not for MSDOS partition tables up to 1TB). Now it also backups trailing space after the last partition; to avoid this use --skipend. scripts/install now creates the man directory if it did not exist previously and sparsefile-restore has adapted inline directives for newer versions of gcc.
