Solar power: the energy transition at risk

The French state wants to cut the feed-in tariffs for solar power so radically that a number of operating companies are likely to go bankrupt. The publicly available, actual database of the operating companies is not used for the reduction, but an artificially compiled one. Small investors in particular are harmed. We think that this is a fatal signal for the energy transition and for future investments that are urgently needed right now. There will be a cut, but your signature can help ensure that it is appropriate to continue to cover the real cost.

Uncontacted Tribes: This Week is for Them

Survival International has proclaimed Uncontacted Tribes Week. When this image went around the world in 2008, many people, including resource-hungry governments and corporations, denied the existence of uncontacted tribes. Uncontacted peoples are people who refuse contact with “civilization” partially due to bad experiences and who continue to live without any trade relations with the rest of the world, as once upon a time. With their extremely rich cultures and their very own cosmovisions, they are an essential part of human diversity. If their areas are cleared, destroyed or used industrially, these peoples disappear. They then die down to the last man and the last woman. From the Amazon to Indonesia, there are more than 100 uncontacted tribes around the world. In addition to the petition for Brazil, there is also one for Peru. Paraguay has the Ayoreo-Totobiegosode, the last uncontacted people in South America outside of the Amazon.

The Biden administration suspended drilling leases in the Artic last week. We had reported about project “Willow”. Now it is up to Congress to install a permanent protection. Tell Biden to stop all tar sand and fracked gas fossil fuel pipelines – see for the message link. We had also reported that Japan would have consented in stopping the export of coal power (according to a Guardian article). However, apparently Japan does not intend to come up to its commitments: see on twitter: I, II, III. Turning Trump´s fossil fuel rubber stamping organization the FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) into FREC (Federal Renewable Energy Commission) has been discussed and demanded long by Beyond Extreme Energy. Now sign the petition for a Climate Leader at FERC! Demand pension funs to divest: nearly all of the US pension funds are invested in fossil fuels: Tax money must not support polluters. France: Sign against Nestlé illegally dumping plastic waste at the mineral water territory of Vittel and against Nestlé bullying the whistleblower Didier Thouvenin.

Besides Google, IBM is a leader in the field of quantum computers. The Ehningen site in Europe now has the first quantum computer with more than 25 qubits (IBM Q System). In March 2020, IBM and the Frauenhofer-Gesellschaft signed an agreement with Angela Merkel to advance research on quantum computers in Germany. The quantum computer can be used to develop battery and fuel cells, it can be used for better algorithms for industrial manufacturing, development, logistics, energy and finance as well as for stability analysis of critical infrastructure networks.

a̅tea v0.8

͏Outright overhauled version of a̅tea:
  1. Corrected an incorrect free of the public key striking if the TLSA record contains a hash of the public key rather than a hash of the whole cerificate. The key obtained via X509_get_X509_PUBKEY must not be freed as it belongs to the whole X509 certificate. Previously possible arbitrary code execution!
  2. 64bit file offsets on 32bit systems allowing for continuation of file downloads with more than 4GB
  3. two flavours of a̅tea: unbound (as previously) and direct (no need for special DNS servers, currently no signature validation)
  4. license & code reusage: choose your license between ISC, GPLv3 and others
  5. correct retrieval of DANE TLSA records if certificate differs from that used at port 443 (default SSL port)
  6. automatic check for outdated certificates (can be switched off)
  7. possibility to print the most important certificate properties on command line including hashes for comparison in browsers and as used in TLSA records.
  8. correct printing of IPv3 addresses if portions of the address are greater or equal to 128
  9. “-hh” option to not only print the response but the http request sent before
  10. noop operation for merely checking and printing certificates
  11. no more separate code blocks for tii and tii-cert: code unified
dig _443._tcp.elstel.org TLSA → TLSA 3 0 1 XXXXX: 3: direct cert usage; 0: full cert/ 1: public key; 1: sha256
