Human rights lawyer Steven Donziger has been released from prison into home confinement. This is a success of the people who support him but at the same time far from a glimpse of justice. The first corporate prosecution in US history is a very bad travesty of (in)justice: Steven Donziger just did his duty to defend the Ecuadorian people against Chevron´s human right crime affecting 30,000 indigenous people and campesinos. Up to now the process has rather compared to what we know from China or Russia otherwise.

Although carbon offsetting could in deed help to reduce emissions on a short term with some projects, its primary purpose is undeniably greenwashing. That is why article 6 has been put into practice so hastily at the COP26. Neither are forests protected by this mechanism nor does their existence save any GHGs (greenhouse gases) that would not be saved any way while emissions are allowed to continue. JPMorgan and UBS, both members of the Global Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) are some of the worst financiers of oil and gas in the Amazon rainforest. Amazon crude is causing wreaking oil spills, poisoning water and additionally putting the survival of Amazonian tribes at risk by invaders and new streets which encourage further deforestation.
Concerning the new CAP it is disappointing that EU institutions do not enforce putting the Green Deal into practice. Member states can only act on their own like Germany desiring to abolish Glyphosphate while it could be re-approved on EU level. However in order to meet the climate protection goals all member states would need to follow, not just a few individual ones.
Germany: Cumcum is the big brother of CumEx. Again taxes have been reimbursed, although no entitlement for that did exist. The damage is about 28.5 billion euros and is therefore well twice as big as of CumEx. It is about that German companies are allowed to get dividends of their stock reimbursed, but not foreign ones. With this business a foreign company briefly transferred its shares to a German bank at the distribution day. In the years 2016 and 2017, the Ministry of Finance led by the CDU has sent a writing to the federal states, which should exculpate these businesses so that banks remain protected from recovery; only recently this was corrected. Like with CumEx, the CumCum offenses threaten to become time-barred unless investigations will finally be launched.
