Votes on EU Agriculture Policy

David Sassoli, president of the European Parliament, brought forward the key vote on the future of agricultural subsidies by one day. It sounds like no big deal - who cares, right? But it was about how €60 billion of agricultural subsidies to be spent each year. The date change confused the whole vote, leading to allegations that the powerful agribusiness lobby played a role. As the result was a vote that totally undermines the EU’s commitment to climate action, we once more wanna suggest Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to submit a new CAP proposal.

  • According to recent reports, the Brazilian environmental agency Ibama had to stop the fight against the forest fires and withdraw all emergency services. Apparently, the agency lacks the financial means to continue to take action against the devastating destruction of Brazil's forests.
  • Yesterday the European Parliament finally decided to leave the EU's agricultural policy essentially unchanged until 2027. And that despite considerable criticism from science, a large movement made up of climate, environmental and progressive agricultural associations as well as Social Democrats, the Greens and the Left. EPP and Liberals voted for the deal. “We call on Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to make use of her right to stop the negotiations and submit a new CAP proposal.” The agrarian reform decided by the EU Parliament contradicts everything that was announced in the Green Deal by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen when she took office; to the article by NABU.

Instead of the necessary greening and species protection, there are even steps backwards. Climate-friendly agriculture would look very different. Tomorrow the EU Parliament should approve the deal. A vote against it would be the last chance! contribution from Attac.

Last year I have been chatting with someone whom I know. The outcome was a truely priceless consideration and critics of the Buddhist religion. This is not at all the usual boring stuff about religion or moral. It is a truely intelligent talk, analysis and consideration of what you should know about this world religion.

The destruction seems unbounded: People can assist the larger and larger spreading of the flames which stays without precedent in the history of Brasil. The government does not take any action, while the man made flames do not only devour the Amazon but now also the Pantanal. The Amazon is near a tipping point of turning into a Savannah. read here and here: Multiple factors, seen separated or conjoint, contribute to the massive drought in the Pantanal, which is a large swamp area. … These ecosystems are interconnected: While the Cerrado is known as water basin of Brasil, where multiple rivers originate, the Amazon is known to provide multiple ecosystem services for the country. One of these services are the “flying rivers” which bring rain to distant locations. …
donate now for Greenpeace or a similar organization that does something against the fires. Since Bolsonaro has withdrawn all the public money for environmental protection government agencies can no more fulfill their job!
